Secret Beans

Raccoon Valley RV Park
Heiskell, Tennessee

We have been staying just outside of Knoxville, TN for about a week.  Now that the Memorial Day madness is over, we are planning to leave tomorrow to see the area around Greenville, TN.

We originally came to this area because we wanted to go to the "Secret City" of Oak Ridge, TN.  This is one of three locations involved in the Manhattan Project to produce the atom bomb during World War II.  About six months ago this site became part of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park.  Oak Ridge was responsible for producing uranium-235 for the Los Alamos, NM site and testing the plutonium production process.  We started at the American Museum  of Science and Energy and then went on the three hour tour of the different sites (K-25, X-10 & Y-12). We learned a lot, but can't talk about it.  Remember, it's "secret".

Less taxing for our brains was a trip to Bush's Beans.

I'm riding in the truck with Duke.

Boy, is Dave full of beans!

Today we went downtown to check things out in Knoxville.  In 1982 this city hosted the last World's Fair in the US.  A park remains with lots of walking trails, concert areas and the Sunsphere.

I was very relived to find an elevator.  When we drove by all I could see was stairs.

It sure was hard work solving this giant Rubik's Cube.

Market Square is lined with shops and eating places.  To bad it wasn't dinner time but thank goodness it's always shopping time.

  1. Duke gave Bill a special "bank" can because it was his birthday when we were there. Did you see the Memorial Park near the hotel where the Rubic Cube is?
